As you may know, the long-term future of the Phoenix Coyotes has been uncertain for some time. This uncertainty is quickly coming to a close, and fans of the Coyotes have a unique opportunity to help determine what happens next.

Tonight, the Glendale City Council will meet to vote on a new lease agreement that will decide the team’s long-term future in the Valley. Coyotes Chief Operating Officer Mike Nealy is encouraging fans to attend the session in support of the agreement. In an open letter addressed to the "Arizona Hockey Community," Nealy says the proposed agreement offers the promise of an exciting and bright future.

The text of the letter follows.

To The Arizona Hockey Community:

As a hockey fan in the Valley, I know you are aware of the struggles our franchise has had to endure over the past 18 months. To say the situation has been uncertain would be a significant understatement. However, recent developments have not only provided hope but also the promise of a very exciting and bright future.

The anticipation and joy that existed when NHL hockey first came to Arizona in 1996 more recently turned to apathy. You, of all people, understand that there is something special about this game and the people that play it and hope began to arrive as good hockey men stepped into the fray. GM Don Maloney has put an exciting roster together on a lean budget. Coach Dave Tippett has instilled confidence and a sense of purpose in his charges and the players, as One Pack, have assumed an attitude of “us against the world.” After an historic 50-win, 107-point season last year, the team is again battling at the top of the Western Conference. More importantly the Coyotes have given the fans something to believe in again.

It is the belief in the Team that helped bring us to the exciting precipice that we stand at today; a second chance. Rarely, if ever, are we afforded a do-over but the fans of Arizona have spoken. Through your support and the combined efforts of the City of Glendale, the NHL and the Coyotes’ staff, the Coyotes are ready to call Arizona home for the long term. With the financial strength of a new owner, Matt Hulsizer, this organization can finally have all the pieces in place to reward a fan base that has been more than patient. A major piece to the puzzle is a new arena lease agreement with the City of Glendale to ensure the stability of NHL hockey in our market.

On Tuesday, December 14th the Glendale City Council will vote to approve the new lease. On behalf of the Coyotes organization I implore you to show your support at this most critical juncture. Wear your jerseys and help the Coyotes win the biggest fight that we have faced. I’ve attached the location and time of Tuesday’s meeting below. This is your chance to once again display your Coyotes passion and ensure that NHL hockey stays in the Valley. This is YOUR team. Show the league along with 29 other NHL cities and Glendale City Council that Arizonians fight for what they believe in. This is your chance to be heard!

Thank you for your support, I hope to see you on Tuesday at the Council meeting ….. and at Coyotes games in Glendale for years to come!
